Manual Exposure

Introduction

With the release of 4k UHD Camera Firmware 2.0+, combined with controller firmware 8.2+, manual exposure settings have been added.

Changes/New Features

Navigate to MENU>SETTINGS>CAMERA>MAIN/AUX>ADVANCED SETTINGS

Modes:

Auto Exposure (AE on)

This is the default and will adjust the gain and shutter time based on the exposure of the captured scene.

In this mode, you can adjust a "AE compensation" which lets the user slightly bias the auto exposure algorithm to be tuned to be slightly darker (negative values), or slightly brighter (positive values)

Manual Exposure (AE off)

This turns off the auto exposure algorithm and lets the user directly control the two parameters:

        1. Shutter-time : how long the camera captures each frame. A smaller fractional number means the capture will be faster & snappier, but less light will be captured by the sensor. A larger number will be the opposite.

        2. Sensor gain: This is how much gain/amplification the camera will apply to the image to bring out more details. A higher number will brighten the image at the expense of a noisier/grainer image. A smaller number will be the opposite. A number that is too large will exhibit blue horizontal gain lines or other undesired artefacts - this is normal but usually means the gain setting is too high.
